Understanding COUNTA Formula
In Excel, we use the COUNT function to count numeric values in a specified range of cells.
Non-numeric values are generally text values, such as apple, building, horse, and so on. We will use the COUNTA function to count all non-numeric values in the range. Therefore, with COUNTA you can count all items in a Range, which can include both text and numbers. COUNTA stands for “COUNT All”.
Syntax of COUNTA formula
The syntax of the COUNTA function is as follows:
=COUNTA(value1, [value2], [value3],…)
We can insert a range of cells into the COUNTA function, for example:
=COUNTA(C2:C5)
The function above will look within the cells in range C2 to C5.
Practice COUNTA function below:
The formula can be entered in the highlighted cell. If the formula entered is correct, it shows good job. If the formula is entered incorrectly, the result will be invalid. Please keep in mind that you can only enter formula in the highlighted cells.
